Movable assets are divided into two categories of property: documents and heritage objects.

What is a heritage document?

The heritage document is a medium in which information is carried in the form of words, sounds or images.

The document must have artistic, emblematic, ethnological, historical, scientific and technological value or several of them.

A document may be, for example:

  • Archives
  • a manuscript
  • a book
  • a photograph
  • A film.

The medium itself is not necessarily of a heritage interest. For example, a film of artistic or historical value can be considered a heritage document, even if it is kept on a simple DVD.

What is a heritage object?

The property object is a movable asset other than a heritage document. It must have an archaeological, artistic, emblematic, ethnological, historical, scientific, technological or other value.

A heritage object may include:

  • paint
  • a musical instrument
  • of tools
  • the prototype of a machine
  • a piece of furniture
  • a garment
  • an artifact found during archaeological excavations.
